Pet Safe Coalition waiting on state funds

The Long Island Philharmonic and health and human services agencies are not the only not-for-profits who have not yet received promised state money.
The Pet Safe Coalition, a not-for-profit composed of volunteers who set up “safe havens” for animals during hurricanes and natural disasters when other shelters are not available, has not yet received $7,500 in member items New York state Sen. Carl Marcellino requested, according to the executive director of the coalition, Beverly Poppell.
Poppell said the money is typically used to provide for feed bowls, cages, and other supplies for “safe havens” for pets during hurricanes and other natural disasters. Without this money, Poppell and the other organizations that are in the coalition, such as Bide-a-wee and the Long Island Cat Fanciers Assocare taking up a collection among themselves, Poppell said. They group is also using old equipment.
She said that she has not yet received any word from the state about when the Pet Safe Coalition would receive its money.
