Financial Development Chairperson

Pet Safe Coalition, Inc. is seeking a resourceful and innovative volunteer who will be responsible for fundraising and cost-saving initiatives that will further the mission and goals of the organization.



Public Relations Chairman

Pet Safe Coalition, Inc. is currently seeking an enthusiastic volunteer to lead our public relations activities in order to promote our mission and the organization. Working closely with our officers and webmaster the Public Relations Chairman would be responsible to act as the spokesperson of Pet Safe Coalition and will assure Coalition news and activities are communicated throughout the community via all media resources.

 


The Pet Safe Coalition Inc. is a not-for-profit organization with five years of disaster relief experience under the umbrella of another organization.  The Coalition is comprised of more than a dozen public and private partner organizations. Pet Safe's mission is "To educate Nassau County pet owners about disaster preparedness and provide emergency care and sheltering through the cooperation of veterinarians and local animal shelters."

We are currently looking to fill the following volunteer positions at Pet Safe Coalition, Inc.

Financial Development Chairperson

Pet Safe Coalition, Inc. is seeking a resourceful and innovative volunteer who will be responsible for fundraising and cost-saving initiatives that will further the mission and goals of the organization.


Financial Development Chairperson will:
  • Research and prepare applications for Grant Opportunities using Guidestar
  • Write proposals and requests for corporate assistance and sponsorships (e.g. PetCo, Pet Smart, Pet Peeves)
  • Assist during fundraising events (e.g. golf tournament)
  • Negotiate with financial institutions for best rates
  • Develop and implement community awareness events and activities (e.g. Wrapping presents at Barnes and Nobles, Pet Photos with Santa at Shopping Centers, Pet Disaster Preparedness Kits raffled at local pet stores)

To be successful the volunteer:

  • Thrives on identifying new areas of opportunity
  • Plans and organizes with little or no assistance
  • Has above average written and verbal skills that command attention and achieve results
  • Drives to obtain enthusiastic commitments
  • Excels at using the computer and the internet
  • Is committed to contribute to Pet Safe’s success

Public Relations Chairman

Pet Safe Coalition, Inc. is currently seeking an enthusiastic volunteer to lead our public relations activities in order to promote our mission and the organization. Working closely with our officers and webmaster the Public Relations Chairman would be responsible to act as the spokesperson of Pet Safe Coalition and will assure Coalition news and activities are communicated throughout the community via all media resources.

 


The Public Relations Chairman will:

  • Works closely with Renee, Nancy and Lydia regarding Pet Safe Coalition and Pet Safe Action Team activities and actions
  • Contacts the dot com calendars (i.e. Newsday, News 12, the  Penny Savers, the Long Island Press and appropriate weeklies etc) a month prior to scheduled activities
  • Takes or obtains photos for internal and external public relations, website posting etc.
  • Contacts Newsday, News 12, WCBS, WABC, NY Times Long Island Desk on breaking stories and Coalition activations
  • Creates a positive working relationship with the meeting by following up with appropriate thank you notes or calls to the media that do stories
  • Writes feature stories on activations for web posting and for submission to newspapers.
  • Represent Pet Safe Coalition, when possible, during news media interviews.
  • Work with reporters on various story angles and updates.

Successful volunteers will have:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships
  • Basic PC skills
  • Ability to commit to volunteer time weekly
