   How You Can Help

EXPERIENCED PET HANDLERS NEEDED FOR DISASTER ACTIVATIONS

Attention experienced, licensed veterinary technicians, animal handlers and dog trainers. Nassau County's more than 620,000 dogs and cats need your hands on support during this upcoming hurricane season.

Please join the Pet Safe Coalition, Inc. on Monday, March 26th at 7 pm or Friday, April 6th at 7 pm at the Levittown Library, One Bluegrass Lane to learn how you can make a difference this summer and help prevent a Katrina-like disaster in Nassau County.

As we know, unlike wildlife, companion animals are 100 percent dependent on people for their survival. So, we all need to work together to support Nassau County's pets in disasters.

Pet Safe needs administrative volunteers as well, but please feel free to sign up only for disaster activations.

Please pre-register for the meetings so we can plan the evenings and be able to contact you about any changes.

Contact Nancy Lynch at petsafe2@hotmail.com or call 516-676-0808 for further information.

Thank you

Nancy Lynch

President

Volunteer Opportunities

The Pet Safe Coalition Inc., an all volunteeer organization, offers a targeted and focused educational program teaching pet owners how to prepare their pets for disasters and alerting them to the importance of such plans. We need volunteers to help us carry out this program.

Our goal is to have disaster planning information in the hands of every person who buys or adopts a pet in Nassau County. In order to accomplish this we need volunteers to go out to rabies clinics, pet shows, dog walks and pet shops with brochures. We also need people to talk to dog clubs, Rotary Clubs, Boy and Girl scouts and clubs.

In addition, the Pet Safe Coalition Inc. needs the support of school administrators to help us work with our partners who have therapy dogs and reach into the schools so the children can help prepare their pet's disaster kits.

The Coalition needs volunteers to help support recovery centers as they open up and give out information on how the Pet Safe Coalition can support Katrina and Rita evacuees.

The Pet Safe Coalition needs event planners to help plan special events as well as business and administrative support.

The Coalition needs LIVMA volunteer veterinarians and vet techs who live in Nassau County. Please contact the LIVMA Disaster Committee.

Check out other opportunities currently available by visiting our site often and click over to our "Volunteer Opportunites"  page.

OTHER WAYS TO SUPPORT US :

The Pet Safe Coalition needs donated gift certificates to pet shops for disaster evacuees to use for pet supplies

The Pet Safe Coalition needs office space in the middle of Nassau County.

And finally, the Pet Safe Coalition needs help in finding sites for pet shelters near schools where people are often housed during disasters.
