Another ‘Katrina’ Not Possible?
Think again. It’s true that there is greater awareness now that in disasters,
communities need to provide for people and their pets. Congress passed a law directing states
and municipalities to consider pets in their disaster planning. But...
The law does not actually require that states or cities put a plan in place.
Only if state and local officials decide that they can provide disaster planning for animals can
pet owners look to their officials for assistance.
That’s why it’s important for everyone who shares their home with pets to make
their own plan to care for them in emergencies.
